The Marble Boat from Imperial Ching-te Chen Porcelain is pleased to present this first issue in the China: Scenes From the Summer Palace limited-edition collector’s plate series by Master Artisan Zhang Song Mao. The edition is limited to a period rigidly confined to 175 firing days beginning in the year 1988.
It is said to understand China, hold a single piece of porcelain in you hand and gaze upon it until you have taken its meaning into your heart. The Marble Boat is indeed a most fitting porcelain object to reflect the world of Chinese history and art.
Zhang Song Mao was born in 1934 and has worked in the field of ceramic art design and painting for decades, becoming particularly proficient at landscape and figure studies in the traditional Chinese style. His name is published in the Dictionary of Chinese Famous Artists and he served as Director of the Ching-te City Arts and Crafts Association.
