The Gift of Purity is the first issue in the Blessings From Chinese Garden collector’s plate series, created in the very birthplace of porcelain in Ching-te, China and produced under the patronage and guidance of China National Arts and Crafts, as depicted by Master Artisan Zhang Song Mao. The edition is limited to a period rigidly confined to 175 firing days beginning in the year 1988.
According to an old proverb, a Chinese picture is a ‘voiceless poem’. In ‘The Gift of Purity’, Zhang Song Mao translates the significance of plum, camellia, and waxbill with a lyrical expressiveness that is indeed poetic.
Zhang Song Mao was born in 1934 and has worked in the field of ceramic art design and painting for decades, becoming particularly proficient at landscape and figure studies in the traditional Chinese style. His name is published in the Dictionary of Chinese Famous Artists and he served as Director of the Ching-te City Arts and Crafts Association.
